Dr. Catherine Stevenson is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Houston, Texas.  She trained at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas, moving to Houston as part of the Menninger-Baylor College of Medicine merger to complete her residency. Psychoanalytic studies, begun at the Topeka Institue for Psychoanalysis, were completed at the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Insitute after the move.

Currently, Dr. Stevenson is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry at Baylor, where she teaches and supervises residents in psychotherapy. As a member of the faculty of the Center For Psychoanalytic Studies, as the Institute has been renamed, Dr. Stevenson has been active in developing and teaching the writing curriculum.

Dr. Stevenson attended The Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University. Prior to medical school, Dr. Stevenson studied at the University of Louvain, Belgium, where she focused on philosophy and theology, (BA, MA, STB, MMRSc), and the Angelicum in Rome, Italy (STL, STD). Working in the area of spirituality, graduate work focused on the interplay between art and theology.

A former President of the Houston Psychoanalytic Society & a several time board member of the Center For Psychoanalytic Studies, Dr. Stevenson is active in the psychoanalytic-psychodynamic community, giving presentations and workshops, and presenting at conferences.  Papers have included, “The Play within the Womb; the Womb within the Play: Erotic Transference and Imaginary pregnancy in Angels in America” and “The Stendhal Syndrome, Art and the Analytic Third.” For many years she co-chaired the Psychoanalysis And Film series at the Jung Center and presented the films Celestial Clockwork and The Stendhal Syndrome.

In 2016, Dr. Stevenson was made a Dame of Justice of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II.
